If you have landed on this page, London South Bank University has referred you for a diagnostic assessment with SpLD Assessments.

To ensure your assessment goes ahead smoothly and without delay, it is important that you read this page carefully and follow the required tasks before the assessment date. If you are unsure or need further support with any of the tasks below, you can get in touch with Huw using the button below.

Essential Requirements
Before the assessment, the following must have been completed.
Eyesight Test
Difficulty with vision can have similar symptoms to those associated with a specific learning difficulty. Therefore, it is important that you have had an eye sight test within the last 2 years. This can be at a local optician. If you usually wear glasses, please make sure you have these on the day of the assessment.
Suitable Assessment Environment
If your assessment is taking place remotely, it's important that:
-
You have a laptop or desktop computer. The assessment cannot be undertaken on an iPad, tablet or phone.
-
You have a quiet room with no distractions and good internet connections. You should be seated at a table or desk that is suitable for writing on.

Pre-Assessment Tasks
Pre-Assessment Questionnaire
At least 24 hours before the assessment, you will need to complete a pre-assessment questionnaire. Your responses to the questions will help the assessor build an understanding of your current and historical challenges. Be honest and provide detailed information so that the assessor can make the most suitable recommendation to support you in your course. Click on the button below to complete the questionnaire.

What to Expect
The assessment is designed to help us understand how we can best support your learning, and there's no need to worry. We'll start by discussing your questionnaire responses, then conduct evaluations of your cognitive abilities and your reading, writing, and spelling skills. This information helps us determine whether you have a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or ADHD, allowing us to create personalised recommendations. The complete assessment typically takes 2-3 hours.

After the Assessment
When will you receive the Report
You can expect to receive your report within 2-3 weeks of your assessment. The report will be sent to you and the Disability and Dyslexia Support Team at LSBU. It will clearly indicate whether you have a specific learning difficulty and provide detailed results from all the tests conducted. Most importantly, it will include personalised recommendations tailored to support your academic success, along with information about your eligibility for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), if applicable.
Applying for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
If your report confirms that you have a specific learning difficulty, you are likely to be eligible for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). The Disability and Dyslexia Support Team at LSBU will contact you to help you with your application. For your reference, the process is briefly outlined below:
-
Complete an application – Complete the DSA application form through Student Finance. The LSBU Disability and Dyslexia Support Team can guide you with this step. You will need to submit your report as evidence of your specific learning difficulty. More information can be found here.
-
Book a Needs Assessment – Once your application has been processed, you will be invited to attend a Needs Assessment. This meeting identifies the specific support, strategies and equipment that will best meet your needs.
-
Receive your DSA entitlement letter – After the Needs Assessment, Student Finance will send you a letter confirming the support agreed.
-
Put support in place – The LSBU Disability and Dyslexia Support Team will work with you to ensure your recommended support is arranged and available.
